We joined forces with Astoria powerhouse Fort George Brewery to create a seasonally appropriate Alder Smoked Stout for our first beer of the series. Pelican R&D Brewer Coren Tradd and Fort George R&D Brewer Dave Coyne took a left turn from conventional styles to marry both sweet and smoky characters in the design of this full-flavored stout. Paying homage to the treelined Oregon coast, they chose alder smoked malt that perfectly complements this winter stout's dark chocolate and roasted coffee notes. In classic Pelican and Fort George fashion, this beer finishes smooth with slight sweetness, perfect for colder afternoons on the docks or on the patio. 100% proceeds of this beer go directly to Clatsop Community Action, a non-profit agency specializing in helping people meet housing, food, and other basic living needs in Clatsop County, Oregon.
