Pelican Brewing Company releases aromatic imperial IPA innovation, Beak Breaker

Pelican perfects new double IPA recipe with a big punchy aroma strong enough to break your beak, debuts this week in Pelican mixed 12 packs

Pacific City, Oregon (August 8, 2016)—With a knack for consistently innovating new recipes, Pelican Brewing Company this week raises the bar on imperial IPAs with the release of Beak Breaker. Big punchy hops, bright gold color, tropical aroma and incredible balance are the hallmarks of this delicious new brew. Since it was born at the beach 20 years ago, Pelican has enjoyed a reputation for leading American IPA development, creating and releasing numerous groundbreaking IPAs including India Pelican Ale, Imperial Pelican Ale, Silverspot IPA and now Beak Breaker. “Beak Breaker is our newest homage to big, aromatic IPAs—we reimagined what a double IPA could be in 2016 with all the new hop varieties available today and even a new dry hop injection process we just developed,” says Darron Welch, founding brew master, Pelican Brewing Company. “Our 20-years of brewing hoppy beers, and IPA in particular, informed many of the choices made in Beak Breakerwith massive additions of Mosaic, Citra and Centennial hops, it delivers a bright citrus-tropical aroma with notes of ruby red grapefruit and sweet pine to blast your olfactory senses.” Beak Breaker debuts this week in grocery store aisles in Pelican’s new mixed 12 packs and 22 oz. bottles as well as on draft at Pelican venues and other on-premise beer taps. It takes the place of Pelican’s Imperial IPA in the mixed 12 pack. Imperial IPA will continue to be available as a draft-only crowd-pleaser.  “To be a Pelican beer you must be well-balanced and flavorfulimmensely drinkable and finish dry in order to showcase the incredible ingredients we have available to us in the Pacific Northwest. With this philosophy in mind, Beak Breaker was designed to feature some of our favorite intensely aromatic new hop varietals and do so in a way that lets the hops shine through without having a sticky sweet finish that is often present in double IPA’s,” says Jim Prinzing, CEO, Pelican Brewing Company. “With a reputation for brewing creativity, Darron has been crafting groundbreaking beers for Pelican for 20 years and has now brought that innovation to the double IPA category.” Beak Breaker ingredients include pale ale malt, two-row malt, white cane sugar, Magnum hops, Centennial hops, Citra hops, Mosaic hops and ale yeast for a beak breaking drinking experience. Beak Breaker offers: ABV: 9.5%, IBU: 90, Plato: 19◦ Born at the Beach Pelican was born at the beach 20 years ago as a small, stand alone brewpub in a small town on the Oregon coast—Pacific City.  Pacific City is still a small town, but with consistent growth and demand for its products, Pelican sales are up more than 500% from 3,500 barrels in 2013 to 18,000 barrels this year. The company recently doubled its brewing and bottling capacity at its Tillamook facility and opened a new brewpub in Cannon Beach. Pelican also recently won a bronze medal at the World Brew Cup℠ and eight medals including Champion Medium International Brewery at the Australian International Beer Awards. Like all Pelican beers, Beak Breaker is also born at the beach by a team of award-winning craft beer makers known for brewing styles of beer that they themselves love to drink. Skål!
