COASTAL COLLABORATION VOLUME II

A TRIPLE COLD IPA IN COLLABORATION WITH BEACHCREST BREWING FOR SILETZ BAY MUSIC FESTIVAL

Featuring Scott Mohr of Pelican Brewing Company and Matt White of Beachcrest Brewing.

What are the chances two passionate beer lovers and brewers live on the same street on the Oregon Coast? Chances are rare, but for Pelican’s second Coastal Collaboration beer, a Triple Cold IPA, lightning struck twice on a quiet coastal street in Lincoln City, Ore. There you’ll find Pelican R&D Brewer Scott Mohr and Beachcrest Brewing Co-Owner and Brewer Matt White.

Scott and Matt’s friendship started over three years ago when Matt and Amy White opened Beachcrest Brewing in Gleneden Beach, located near Siletz Bay in Lincoln City. Scott frequented Beachcrest and connected with Matt over brewing and living on the Oregon Coast.

“Scott is genuinely a great friend and amazing brewer,” says Matt, Co-Owner of Beachcrest Brewing. “We work on beers at Beachcrest, and we learn from each other throughout the brewing process. When Scott asked me to do this collaboration, I was floored. It was a new experience to step into his world at the Pelican Brewery and learn about their standards and processes for creating their beers. It was special to brew together at Pelican.”

For the Coastal Collaboration Volume II, Scott and Matt set out to create their version of the popular hybrid ale, the Cold IPA. Using three different hop varieties – Nelson Sauvin, Idaho Gem, and Huell Melon- they created a robust but drinkable Triple Cold IPA inspired by white wine that engulfs your palate with notes of white grape and honeydew melon and finishes fast and crip.

“We chose to do a Triple Cold IPA with elegant wine-like characteristics because it is unique to other IPAs and Cold IPAs. Collaborations allow us to experiment and try out new ideas with our fellow brewers,” says Scott. “We wanted to offer an alternative experience to the tropical Hazy IPA and created a smooth, easy-to-drink ale with a huge fruity bouquet and pleasant hop aroma.”

Two other ingredients added to this collaboration are music and community. 100% of proceeds from this brilliant straw-colored beer go to the Siletz Bay Music Festival, a non-profit agency specializing in bringing multi-genre world-class music performed by outstanding musicians to the Central Oregon Coast; to reach across race, culture, age, social and economic barriers, to uplift and educate all people seeking extraordinary musical experiences.

“Amy and I used to be music teachers before starting Beachcrest Brewing. We chose the Siletz Bay Music Festival with Pelican for the cultural importance, influence, and impact that music can make on the younger generation,” says Matt. “The organization provides the youth of Lincoln City opportunities to play, learn, and perform music. Music is important for kids as it exposes them to other cultures and broadens their experiences beyond their local community.”

Pelican’s year-long commitment to creating positive change in our coastal communities continues with the release of Coastal Collaboration Volume II, a Triple Cold IPA with Beachcrest Brewing. This crisp and refreshing beer is now available in 500 mL bottles at your local bottle shop, on draft at Pelican Brewpubs and Beachcrest Brewing, and Pelican’s beer subscription service called the Beer Box.
